ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Welcome to the annual CIT International Conference.  This year the conference is being held in partnership with Connecticut Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement, Inc. (CABLE) and will be in Hartford, CT at the beautiful Connecticut Convention Center.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) International. CIT International is a non-profit membership organization whose primary purpose is to facilitate understanding, development and implementation of Crisis Intervention Team programs throughout the United States and in other nations worldwide. Its mission is to promote and support collaborative efforts to create and sustain more effective interactions among law enforcement, mental health care providers, individuals with mental illness, their families and communities and also to reduce the stigma of mental illness. Connecticut Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement (CABLE), The Connecticut Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement, Inc. brings community and law enforcement resources together to address common issues related to mental health. CABLE is a grassroots, non-profit 501 (C)(3) research and training collaborative whose mission is to serve as an interdisciplinary resource and catalyst for law enforcement and community collaboration, support and education. This unique organization is composed of a cross-section of stakeholders:

  • municipal and state law enforcement personnel
  • mental health professionals
  • families and persons with mental illness
  • educational institutions

Lodging

There are four beautiful hotels to choose from for this conference.  All of the hotels are within easy walking distance to the Hartford Connecticut Convention Center.  These hotels vary in price which allows each participant to choose a hotel that fits their budget.  We have tried to make sure there is something for everyone.  The Hotels are:  Hartford Hilton, Hartford Marriott, Ramada Plaza Downtown and the Hartford Plaza East Hartford (soon to be the Holiday Inn). 

All hotels are within walking distance to the convention center.  The Hartford Marriott is attached to the convention center; the Hartford Hilton is about 2 blocks from the convention center; the Ramada Plaza Downtown is about a 10-15 minute walk to the convention center and the Hartford Plaza East Hartford is a 7 minute walk across a foot bridge.  The Hilton and Ramada do over a free shuttle to the convention center that runs every 10 minutes.

Travel

 All major airlines fly into Bradley International Airport
Transportation from the airport to the hotels is available via the City Bus or Taxi Cabs.

  City bus information can be found at http://www.cttransit.com/routesschedules/bradleyflyer.asp. The bus ($1.30 one way) runs every hour on the hour and will drop people off at the Convention Center.  Marriott lodgers can directly access their hotel via the Convention Center.  Others can wait for the Star Shuttle which runs every 10 minutes and will bring them to the Hilton and Ramada Plaza Downtown.  For those staying at the Ramada East Hartford/Holiday Inn, the hotel is a short 7 minute walk over the bridge.

Evening Networking Events

  Bobbing, Burgers and Bonfire!      
Sunday, October 13 from 4-8 pm – tickets $20.00 pp

Join us for a pre-conference excursion to one of Connecticut’s apple orchards for an afternoon of apple picking, hayrides, great food and a humongous bonfire! We will take you to Cavanna’s Farm, a 110 year old family operated farm with 225 acres nestled in the rolling hills of south Glastonbury offering picturesque vistas during the fall foliage. Get a taste of Connecticut you will never forget!

Continuing Education Units

Continuing Education Units will be offered.  More information about the number of units, which disciplines and if a cost is involved will be available shortly.

Awards Nomination

Each year CIT International honors several individuals for exemplary CIT work in the following categories:  Officer of the Year, Consumer of the Year, Police Chief or Sheriff of the Year, CIT Coordinator of the Year, Advocate of the Year, Behavioral Healthcare Practitioner of the Year and Best CIT Pin.  Nomination for awards will open up May 15, 2013.
